Startup FAQ Page Guide: Writing FAQs That Sell and Rank
FAQ pages are underused sales tools and underused SEO assets. Here is how to write one that answers objections, accelerates decisions, and attracts search traffic.
Most startup FAQ pages answer operational questions that nobody asked before purchasing. "How do I reset my password?" belongs in your help docs. FAQ pages that convert and rank answer the questions buyers ask before they commit: pricing structure, security, contract terms, integration details, and the comparison questions ("how is this different from X").
FAQ categories that accelerate decisions
Pricing and billing. "Can I cancel anytime?" "Do you offer annual discounts?" "What happens to my data if I cancel?" These questions stall purchasing decisions more than any other category. Answer them completely.
Security and data. "Where is my data stored?" "Do you comply with GDPR or SOC 2?" "Who can see my data?" For B2B products, these are often required questions before a procurement team will approve spend.
Integration and compatibility. "Does this integrate with [specific tool]?" "What API access do I have?" "Does it work on mobile?" Specific integration questions reduce support load and pre-qualify right-fit buyers.
The comparison questions. "How is this different from [competitor]?" is a real question buyers type into Google. Answering it on your own FAQ page means you control that conversation.
Getting started. "How long does setup take?" "Do you offer onboarding?" "What does the free trial include?" Lower the perceived risk of starting.
Writing answers that convert
- Answer the question in the first sentence, then provide context. Do not make the reader reach the end of a paragraph to get the answer.
- Link to relevant documentation, pricing page, or comparison page where appropriate — FAQ answers are also internal linking opportunities.
- Keep answers between 50 and 200 words. Shorter is better. If the answer requires 500 words, create a dedicated page and link from the FAQ.
- Use FAQ schema markup to enable FAQ rich snippets in Google search results. These increase click-through rates significantly.
