Launch Day Strategy: Hour-by-Hour Guide for Startup Founders
Launch day is chaotic. This hour-by-hour guide tells you what to post, where to post it, and how to manage momentum across multiple platforms simultaneously.
A disorganized launch day leaves traffic on the table. Visitors arrive, find a slow site or incomplete listing, and leave. Comments go unanswered. Email notifications land hours late. The good news is that with 30 minutes of preparation the night before, you can turn a chaotic launch into a systematic one.
The night before: preparation checklist
- Schedule your email notifications for 7 AM in your target audience's primary timezone.
- Draft all social media posts and have them ready to publish (not auto-scheduled — timing matters).
- Test your website under load — even basic stress testing catches configuration issues.
- Confirm your analytics is tracking correctly so you can measure inbound sources from the first minute.
- Write and save your Product Hunt maker comment and initial Hacker News post body.
Hour-by-hour launch day schedule
12:01 AM: If launching on Product Hunt, submit now and post your maker comment immediately.
7:00 AM: Send your email notification to the waitlist. Keep it short: what launched, why it matters, a direct link.
8:00–9:00 AM: Post on LinkedIn and Twitter. Tag relevant people you spoke to during research. Respond to every early comment within minutes.
10:00 AM: Post in relevant Slack and Discord communities. Use the specific community's format — no copy-paste spam.
12:00 PM: Mid-day check. Respond to all comments accumulated so far. Update your Product Hunt listing if you have new information from early feedback.
3:00 PM: Second wave social post. Share a "day 1 milestone" update — even a small one creates momentum.
6:00 PM: Reddit post in relevant subreddits (time it for peak subreddit activity). Post on Hacker News if it is a Show HN.
End of day: Email a thank-you to everyone who engaged. Log all feedback received. Start planning day 2 follow-up.
